What Causes Paint Cracks?
The paint surface is seriously tarnished, and there are many small cracks on the topcoat layer, which are similar to the cracks in the soil in a dry pond. The cracks often appear in triangular, star-shaped or irregular radial shapes. Cracking generally occurs in the finish coat, and sometimes penetrates into the inner coat.
(1) Causes:
①The paint layer is too thick. Too thick topcoat layer will amplify normal stress and cause cracking, so thinner coating should be sprayed multiple times. Moreover, sufficient drying time should be allowed between each top coat spraying operation, and air drying with a spray gun is not allowed.
② Wrong additives are used. Carefully read and strictly abide by the regulations on the paint label. Various non-topcoat additives will damage the final paint layer and make the paint surface more prone to cracking.
(2) Correction method:
If the crack cannot be removed by grinding and polishing, the cracked area should be thoroughly ground smooth. In severe cases, the paint layer should be removed until the metal layer is exposed and then sprayed again.
