Many car owners find out the car paint becomes darker or yellowish. In order to change the automotive paint's new look, they will choose polishing, but under what circumstances should polishing be done? Can polishing be done for a long time? What are the pros and cons of polishing?

1. Principle of polishing

The polishing principle is to eliminate the oxide layer on the car paint surface through static electricity, friction, polishing, etc., so as to improve the brightness of the paint surface of the car body. They use a grinder for polishing. Under the action of the polishing disc, the polishing machine reacts with the auto paint to generate static electricity. At the same time, the heat of the car body softens the paint film and enlarges the pores. In this case, static electricity will suck out the dirt in the pores of the paint surface, the polishing disc will abrade off the oxide layer, and flatten and fill small scratches. At the same time, some components of the polishing agent will be added to the paint in order to reduce the change in the paint film, therefore, the polishing treatment can improve the paint surface defects and make the paint surface smooth and bright.

2. Reasons for polishing

Car paint is in direct contact with air and acid rain for a long time. In addition, if the static electricity layer and traffic film generated during driving are not removed in time for a long time, it is easy to cause oxidation and corrosion of the paint surface. Moreover, under the ultraviolet rays of the sun, the paint film continuously evaporates the oil into the air, achieving the purpose of protecting itself. For a long time, the oil on the paint surface will be excessively lost, the brightness of the paint surface will be greatly reduced, and the paint surface will gradually become white and form an oxide layer. By polishing the car paint surface, the deep gloss can be restored and the original appearance of the paint surface can be restored.

3. Advantages of polishing

Polishing can remove stains and oxide layers on the surface of the car paint, so as to restore the color and beauty of the car, especially for light-colored car paints such as white color. After polishing, it will obviously feel that the car is a brand new one.

4. Disadvantages of polishing

Polishing will make the auto paint surface thinner. One polishing will reduce the thickness of the paint surface by about 5 microns and the total thickness of the varnish layer is generally about 50 millimeter. Although it will be waxed and sealed after polishing, it will make up for the thickness of the vehicle. But after all, it can't replace the car paint, so the more polishing times will make the car paint thinner and thinner, which will affect the value of the car.

It is recommended that you develop a good habit of caring for your cars, wash and maintain the vehicle regularly. Polishing can be done when the car paint color turns yellow or very dull. A vehicle can only be polished 5-6 times, it will harm the primer if too many times.
